YOGI OF THE MONTH

January 2016 - Scott Witthaus

What first brought you to yoga and how long have you been practicing?

I was born with the tendons in my legs being too short. I wore the "Forrest Gump Braces" as a child. In my adult life, those tendons caused much back pain and my wife suggested I try yoga as a way to relieve that pain. That was over 15 years ago and it worked fantastically.

What is/are your intention(s) for your yoga practice?

I'm a more "physical" yoga practitioner. It’s a way to relieve pain.

What is your favorite pose and why?

Child's Pose. Always a safe haven.

What is your favorite class at InsideOut Yoga?

Slow Flow because there's more time to get in and out of the postures.

How has the practice of yoga influenced your life?

Yoga has made me less competitive and accepting of what I can do and where I can go.

What advice would you have for a beginning yoga student?

Listen to your body. Listen to what it tells you it can do. Then move forward from there.

What is your occupation?

I'm a film and video editor and college professor.

What activities do you enjoy?

Golf, guitar, fishing and gardening.

What is your favorite thing about living in the Northern Neck?

I live in the Middle Peninsula. The people and the natural beauty of the region are my favorite things.

Is there anything you want to add?

Susan is the best yoga teacher that I have had. The people she attracts to her classes are second to none.
