What first brought you to yoga and how long have you been practicing?

I first discovered yoga in France in 2004. I was 24 years old, working as an English assistant and had a lot of free time on my hands. A fellow teacher took me with her to yoga class and I loved it, even though it was incredibly hard. I've been practicing, in some form, ever since.

What is/are your intention(s) for your yoga practice?

To simply show up and remain present.

What is your favorite pose and why?

It definitely depends on the day. I love a good bind on a strong, exploratory day. A good heart opener always helps when I'm down or tired. Supta baddha konasana is always a nice restorer. Balance poses help get me out of my head.

What is your favorite class at InsideOut Yoga?

The one I can get to! Lol! Lately that's Tuesday and Thursday mornings.

How has the practice of yoga influenced your life?

It has helped me become more accepting of myself and by extension others. It helps me be patient, a necessity as a parent. And it helped me in child birth. I breathed like a pro! It has also helped me allow myself to be weak or sick or sad without judgement. I am. Just me.

What advice would you have for a beginning yoga student?

Just go! Even if you don't love it right away, try it for a while. Try different classes, different teachers. You'll find your fit. There's a class for everyone.

What is your occupation?

Full time domestic engineer. Hahaha! And part time yoga teacher.

What activities do you enjoy?

Yoga, reading, arts and crafts. And music! And any of the above outside in the sun is the best!

What is your favorite thing about living in the Northern Neck or Middle Peninsula?

I'm very rooted here in Middlesex. My family has been here for generations. I feel such a connection to the land. This is home! And it just happens to be beautiful and safe.

Is there anything you want to add?

Over the years, my practice has shifted and evolved and continues to do so. The journey in itself is a practice. So I guess what I'm saying is some days it's ok to stand on your head, tied in a knot. But some days, just breathe!
