YOGI OF THE MONTH

January 2022 - Denise Greene

What first brought you to yoga and how long have you been practicing?

About 20 years ago I started practicing yoga to help me become a better horseback rider. I was surprised to find that I loved yoga just as much as horses.

What is/are your intention(s) for your yoga practice?

I’m surrounded by so much caring and acceptance with other yogis that I can slow down and focus. It helps me find and soften the tight spots in my body and, sometimes, my brain.

What is your favorite pose and why?

Warrior poses. Because I am one.

What is your favorite class at InsideOut Yoga?

Any one I can get to. Susan always gives us enough options to take our practice up a notch or down a notch depending on where we are that day.

How has the practice of yoga influenced your life?

Yoga has taught my brain and body that there’s strength in stillness.

What advice would you have for a beginning yoga student?

Have patience with yourself. Letting it happen works better than making it happen.

What is your occupation?

I’m a Landscape Designer specializing in using native plants to create natural, wildlife friendly gardens.

What activities do you enjoy?

Anything that involves my family, animals, or plants.

What is your favorite thing about living in the Northern Neck or Middle Peninsula?

Friendly grocery cashiers.

Is there anything you want to add?

I’ve finally convinced my husband to give yoga a try and am so happy that he gets what I’ve been going on about all these years. He also says he’s still not going to give horses the same consideration.
