YOGI OF THE MONTH

June 2015 - Nancy Sledd

What first brought you to yoga and how long have you been practicing?

I started yoga in the late 80’s/early 90’s (probably out of curiosity) and have been practicing on & off since…mostly off until I started classes at InsideOut Yoga.

What is/are your intention(s) for your yoga practice?

My primary intentions are to work on my balance, strength, flexibility and to relax.

What is your favorite pose and why?

My favorite pose is Down Dog.  It’s very relaxing but you can’t go to sleep.

What is your favorite class at InsideOut Yoga?

I love Slow Flow but I also like Twist & Shout (aka Breathe & Stretch).  Or should I say Twist & Don’t Shout?

How has the practice of yoga influenced your life?

I 'm a bit surprised to say this, but yoga has given me more confidence.

What advice would you have for a beginning yoga student?

Do at least eight classes in a row before you make any judgments about yoga.  Don’t set parameters or requirements like you have to attend three times a week, etc.  Don’t compete….with yourself or others.

 What is your occupation?

I am a glass artist, both stained and warm.

What activities do you enjoy?

I love traveling, gardening and kayaking.

What is your favorite thing about living in the Northern Neck?

My favorite thing about the NNK is the clean, fresh air.  I also love the beautiful landscape, birdies & other critters.

Is there anything you want to add?

And yup, I’d like to add that Susan is the best, most knowledgeable, teacher I’ve ever practiced with.
