YOGI OF THE MONTH
June 2021 - Luba Brice
What first brought you to yoga and how long have you been practicing?
The first time I tried yoga was at a Bikram class in 2010. Bikram yoga was the “hottest” thing in town and EVERYBODY was doing it. It was very competitive, and looking back, I’m realizing it was also very stressful. After moving to the Middle Peninsula, I came across InsideOut Yoga, which has been a totally different experience. I’ve found it to be a peaceful flow that’s full of loving stretching, which allows me to listen to the whispers of my body.
What is/are your intention(s) for your yoga practice?
My intentions are to be more flexible—both physically and mentally—for the rest my life.
What is your favorite pose and why?
I really enjoy Down Dog. Who would’ve thought that that pose could be so relaxing and pleasant?!? The stretch I feel in my hips awakens my blood flow and makes me feel lighter.
What is your favorite class at InsideOut Yoga?
One of my favorite classes is Vinyasa Flow, but in every class you can get something empowering and enjoyable.
How has the practice of yoga influenced your life?
The practice has improved my wellbeing and brings me comfort in the knowledge that I’m treating my body with love and respect.
What advice would you have for a beginning yoga student?
My advice to everyone is to “just do it!” Simply trying it will give you joy in discovering something new. And being around wonderful people is the cherry on top!
What is your occupation?
I’ve been a model/actress for years. Since I’ve moved to VA, I’m searching for my next project. I used to give cooking classes, and am thinking I may go back to that.
What activities do you enjoy?
I love to entertain my friends and family, cooking exotic dishes, and experimenting with ingredients.
What is your favorite thing about living in the Northern Neck or Middle Peninsula?
I’m still learning about the pleasures of the Middle Peninsula. As of now, I really appreciate stressless living and walking my Chloe-puppy in my PJs.
Is there anything you want to add?
All my life I’ve been a believer in the “no pain, no gain” principle. Practicing at InsideOut Yoga has made me realize how careless this has been.
