What first brought you to yoga and how long have you been practicing?

I always wanted to try Yoga and when the Covid Restrictions kept me from working out at the YMCA, I thought it’d be a good time to try it out. I’ve been practicing for about 3 months.

What is/are your intention(s) for your yoga practice?

My intentions are to become more flexible, achieve a greater range of motion and learn to calm my thoughts.

What is your favorite pose and why?

I like Windshield Wipers because they get my hips stretched and loose. That is my least flexible area.

What is your favorite class at InsideOut Yoga?

My favorite class at IOY is Slow Flow.

How has the practice of yoga influenced your life?

The practice of yoga has helped center me and taught me not be concerned about things I can’t control. I have greatly improved my ROM and my balance.

What advice would you have for a beginning yoga student?

My advice is to just try it. You get great benefits from even attempting the poses.

 What is your occupation?

Retired after 40 years at Newport News Shipbuilding.

 What activities do you enjoy?

My favorite activities are yard work, beer brewing and drinking, coffee roasting, golf, grilling, and eating in as many new restaurants as possible, aka foodie.

What is your favorite thing about living in the Northern Neck or Middle Peninsula?

Feeling of seclusion and a relaxed (comparatively) pace.

Any additional thoughts or comments?

I’ve played sports all my life, baseball at the collegiate level, and I’ve never taken the time to seriously stretch so I was very inflexible. Through the classes I’ve taken, I have range of motion I never thought possible and I feel great. I also want to add that the non-judgmental attitude Susan evokes in class makes the classes all the more enjoyable.
