YOGI OF THE MONTH

February 2022 - Seth Weinstein

What first brought you to yoga and how long have you been practicing?

I’ve been practicing yoga for about 4 years, beginning with an intention to improve my flexibility and getting more regular as a balance to rock climbing and general strengthening.

What is/are your intention(s) for your yoga practice?

Practicing yoga helps me maintain strength and flexibility along with a positive attitude towards each day.

What is your favorite pose and why?

My favorite yoga pose is Crow. It’s the first challenging arm balance I was able to achieve. Over time it’s become more of a challenge to fine tune the pose and to remain in it more through balance and positioning over pure strength.

What is your favorite class at InsideOut Yoga?

Vinyasa Flow on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

How has the practice of yoga influenced your life?

Yoga has taught me the benefits of being present in the moment. My awareness and control of breathing during any exercise has improved dramatically since starting yoga.

What advice would you have for a beginning yoga student?

Try all the poses and learn the subtle positioning which improves the benefits of and brings greater ease to each pose. Also, try different styles of yoga, as they can achieve your goals in very different ways. Finding the right instructors made a world of difference in my appreciation for and the benefits of yoga. Susan is definitely one of those!

What is your occupation?

I’m a retired police officer (Alexandria, VA) and a full-time resident whose duties now include learning the waterways of the Northern Neck, mostly by paddle board.

What activities do you enjoy?

I enjoy paddle boarding (and other watersports), rock climbing, hiking, and biking.

What is your favorite thing about living in the Northern Neck or Middle Peninsula?

My favorite thing about the Northern Neck is the many creeks and rivers and the friendly people I’ve met since relocating here.
