YOGI OF THE MONTH

July 2023 - Lydia Haynie

What first brought you to yoga and how long have you been practicing?

I’ve done yoga on and off for the last ten years, but only within the last year has my practice been consistent. I think that I started out of curiosity but now I really look forward to making time for yoga.

What is/are your intention(s) for your yoga practice?

My intention is primarily to stop the circular thoughts of my brain and to think about loving myself and others.

What is your favorite pose and why?

I love child’s pose because it feels so safe. Dead bug always makes me chuckle.

What is your favorite class at InsideOut Yoga?

The Slow Flow Reedville class.

How has the practice of yoga influenced your life?

It’s helped me a great deal to let thoughts come and then go.

What advice would you have for a beginning yoga student?

Don’t criticize yourself or anyone else.  Some days it’s difficult and other days it just hits a groove.

What is your occupation?

I’m a retired educator and have spent most of my career in Reading Intervention. My husband is a home builder and I’ve always helped him, but since I retired, I’ve become more active in the business, particularly in design, which I love.

What activities do you enjoy?

Gardening, reading and cooking are my big three but there are lots of things I like to do.

What is your favorite thing about living in the Northern Neck or Middle Peninsula?

I love the history of the people in the Northern Neck as well as the natural beauty. I live next door to the home I grew up in.

Is there anything you want to add?

Thank you, Susan, for coming to Reedville and building a community of yogis here!
