YOGI OF THE MONTH
May 2022 - Carla Everton
What first brought you to yoga and how long have you been practicing?
I tried a few classes here and there about 15 years ago but nothing steady. It wasn’t until I came back to the area and really needed an outlet that I tried yoga again. 6 or 7 years ago I decided to take some classes through the YMCA and that’s when I really started taking the practice more seriously. My yoga teacher, Amy, really taught me the fundamentals and fueled my desire to continue.
What is/are your intention(s) for your yoga practice?
I want to stay strong and mentally healthy. I have two boys under the age of 5 and I want to set good examples by staying positive, physically capable and present.
What is your favorite pose and why?
I tend to love balancing poses. I would have to say Standing Pigeon. I like how it incorporates balance with stretching my hips and back.
What is your favorite class at InsideOut Yoga?
My favorite class is the Vinyasa Flow. I really enjoy the challenge and the pace.
How has the practice of yoga influenced your life?
It has helped me stay consistent with continuing a healthy lifestyle.
What advice would you have for a beginning yoga student?
Take it slow, learn the fundamentals and just enjoy your practice.
What is your occupation?
I am a stay-at-home mom. I am raising my boys, Knox, Bodhi and our Golden Retriever Duncan.
What activities do you enjoy?
I enjoy most outdoor activities! Hiking, swimming, SUP, kayaking, walking trails, the woods, or anywhere to clear my mind. I also have a passion for travel, seeing the world and experiencing new cultures. Most of all though, I enjoy spending time with my family.
What is your favorite thing about living in the Northern Neck or Middle Peninsula?
My absolute favorite thing about living here would have to be the access to our rivers and the Chesapeake Bay. Growing up here and then returning has offered up endless days of exploring and has helped create my love for the outdoors. Its undeniably a beautiful place to raise a family as well.
Is there anything you want to add?
I’m thankful that I finally made the time to check out InsideOut Yoga. It’s been a wonderful addition to my journey….
