YOGI OF THE MONTH
October 2021 - Ken Laden
What first brought you to yoga and how long have you been practicing?
A neighbor invited my wife and me to attend a Yoga practice at the Hartfield YMCA. We really enjoyed it and have been practicing for the last eight years.
What is/are your intention(s) for your yoga practice?
My primary intention was to improve balance, flexibility and strength. I am pleasantly surprised by how much improvement I have seen since I started with yoga.
What is your favorite pose and why?
I like the balance poses, especially the tree pose. I find it relaxing.
What is your favorite class at InsideOut Yoga?
My favorite class is the slow flow yoga. I find the pace of the class is right for me.
How has the practice of yoga influenced your life?
I find that my balance and flexibility have improved, and after the first few practices I noticed I was using muscles that I had not been using as much in the past. Overall, I believe yoga has improved by health.
What advice would you have for a beginning yoga student?
I would strongly suggest trying different classes and instructors to find what you enjoy the most.
What is your occupation?
Retired from local government service.
What activities do you enjoy?
Travel, reading and other types of exercise.
What is your favorite thing about living in the Northern Neck or Middle Peninsula?
I enjoy the laidback life style and natural environment of the Northern Neck and Middle Peninsula. There is also a surprising amount of culture and history for a relatively small community.
Is there anything you want to add?
Another major benefit of yoga practice are the people we have met through the classes.
