Getting it in the Can

On a girlfriend’s trip last March, Pamela’s daughter, Gretchen, shared this hilarious Budweiser commercial about “getting it in the can.” It became a sort of theme for our weekend and we still send group texts peppered with the phrase.

Nudged by my friend, Laura, who was in Bethany Beach with us last month, “getting it in the can” took on another meaning: Positive thinking. Can rather than Can’t. Moving forward. Spreading happy…

The ripple effects of positive thinking never cease to amaze me, like the you can’t fail attitude I talked about last month. And it’s something you can practice! It can be as simple as a smile (genuine or attempted), acknowledging what can go right instead of what can go wrong, or as complicated as surrounding yourself with positive people. But… ”it’s a simple and generous rule of life that whatever you practice, you will improve at.” (Elizabeth Gilbert)

I agree with Elizabeth (or Liz, as she self-identifies) and I think I’ll keep practicing getting it in the can. How about you?
